Short Film Review: The Whistler (2018)

The Whistler is a short horror film written and directed by Jennifer Nicole Stang and from Round Table Pictures. It’s a modern take on the classic tale of the Pied Piper. The fable of the Pied Piper is that he would lure the rats away from the town of Hamelin who had hired him to do this. When the town refused to pay for his services, he instead would lure their children away.
This short film clocks in right at about 10:30. There were a few things we really liked, and one of them was the production quality. The overall quality of the lighting, sound, and use of things like CGI was great in this. The acting was also great. It stars Karis Cameron as Lindsey, who is forced to watch her younger sister while their parents are out for the evening. She wakes up on the couch to find her little sister missing and the tension kicks into high gear.
There was a great use of lighting and atmosphere to give it a nice creepy vibe, and we also really enjoyed the ending. The only thing we didn’t like is that there isn’t more to see. This would make a fantastic full-length film, and we hope that it happens.
Overall, we would absolutely recommend that you check out The Whistler when you get a chance. It released today, 2/3/20, on Shudder, and if you don’t have an account you can sign up using checkout code WIHM20 and get a free month: https://www.shudder.com/signup so go check it out!
