Short Film Review: House Call (2019)

by

House Call is a short horror film from My Little Rascal Productions and Wide Eyed Pictures. It was written by Joseph Sorrentino and directed by Daniel Brown. It runs just over nine minutes excluding the credits, but make sure to watch until the end!

The film starts off with a home energy consultant knocking at a home in a suburban neighborhood. He is invited in by, and the story takes a dark and twisted turn from there. It’s really too hard to go into any detail without spoilers, so please do yourself a favor and watch this when it is available.

Overall, for such a small production in a short film, House Call has a lot of horror to offer. There were some really great shots in there cinematography-wise. The acting was good, the sound and score were good, the special effects were awesome, and there were some very nice practical effects and gore which were done extremely well. That’s worth its weight in gold when it comes to horror, and there was no shortage of it here. It even won the award for best gore at the Independent Horror Movie Awards 2018. Another thing to note is that the writing was also really good. The doctor was a fun character and made a great villain. His enthusiasm for his medical practice was much appreciated and entertaining. The set design for the house was fitting as well, really tied the room together (pun intended), and we found something new each time we watched it.

We absolutely recommend this short horror film to horror fans everywhere. We could easily see this as being a feature-length film, and we hope to see a followup of this one sometime in the future.
