Movie Review: One Night Of Fear (2016)

by

Directed by Brian Troxell, and written by Brian and Johnna Troxell, One Night of Fear is based on true events in which people have disappeared from The Ocala National Forest, never to be seen again. This film is about a killer who is on the loose in the area and is mercilessly stalking people who are hiking and camping there. It starts off with some slashing right away and does a pretty good job of keeping the pace throughout the film. It really kicks into gear when Jaclyn (Suzi Lorraine) comes running up to her friends Katie (Jessica Sonneborn) and Rob (Jimmy Dempster) and tells them what the killer did to her boyfriend. They see the killer behind her and all start running for their lives.

They eventually find shelter at a nearby campground cabin and meet up with a Park Ranger named Elmer (Russ Forga) who tries to help them out. The killer locates them, and they all have to try to survive throughout the night together. This film follows the traditional slasher formula. Given the history of the park, it would have been nice to see a bit more story, as it was based on true events, and there is a lot they could have done there, but this is actually pretty par for the course for low-budget slashers.

The killer (Jason Sutton) is a tall, brooding man who is wielding a machete. He harasses the hikers throughout the evening, toying with them from time to time in an attempt to lure them into an escape attempt. He does a great job and is a menacing presence to the hikers trapped inside the cabin throughout the film. There was one scene in particular that Jason Voorhees himself would have been proud of. Some of the production was impressive, but it seems like they ran into some trouble at times. The scenes where they really nailed it definitely make up for the ones where they were having trouble in production, though.

Overall, this is a good Indie Slasher film. Some small issues aside, this team really did a good job making this film, and we really hope to see more from them in the future. One Night Of Fear will debut to stream on Amazon Prime and Amazon Video Wednesday, Nov 30th, 2016
