Short Film Review: Mannequin (2017)

Mannequin is a short horror film produced by DND Creations. Dante Aubain, and Danny Summonte of DND both co-wrote and co-directed this film. It’s about a guy named Dylan (Danny Summonte) who finds that a box has been delivered to his home. Mannequin starts off very ominous, which sets the tone nicely.
Dylan finds a mannequin inside the box along with a card from his uncle Charlie saying to “take care of her”. The mannequin is a very creepy-looking female doll, and he instantly gets a bit freaked out by it.
After waking up to a loud thud in the middle of the night, things really escalate. The really great thing about this film is the atmosphere. Aubain and Summonte really nailed it where it counts the most. The lighting, shadows, and camera shots are fantastic, and the ambient sound and music really tie all of that together nicely to create a really eerie vibe. This is an excellent example of what horror films should look and feel like.
Dylan realizes that something is wrong and decides to stay up after finding a door open in the house, and gets a call from his aunt, who warns him about the box, and to stay away from it, but does she warn him in time?
If anything, the only thing that seemed a bit out of place in the entire film was the sound in the telephone call. It sounded like it was recorded in post-production and Dylan’s voice was a bit unnatural-sounding given the room he was in. This does not detract from the quality of the film at all, though. It’s just something we noticed.
Overall, Mannequin is a great short film. The film’s running time is just over ten minutes, and they really managed to pack a lot of atmosphere into it and told a really interesting story which is impressive. The production was fantastic, and hopefully, this will continue into some full-length horror films in the future. We definitely recommend checking this out and keeping an eye on DND Creations for future projects.
