Movie Review: Unlisted Owner (2013)

Unlisted Owner is a found-footage style horror film written and directed by Jed Brian. It was filmed in Sumner, IL. The film was co-written by Tyler Landers, but Brian also was acting, editing, producing, and doing camerawork for this film. It is his debut feature film. It starts off with a family moving into a house, and then after they are all found dead in the home within a week of moving in, the story follows a group of friends about a week later who decide to abandon their camping trip to visit the house, and the footage has been edited together from several different cameras.
What we liked:
– For having an entire cast with no prior experience, the acting wasn’t as bad as some films we have seen. The production quality was solid for the most part.
What we thought could have been better:
– It took about 45 minutes to get to where the “horror” part of the film began.
– The characters were not developed well enough to warrant the amount of time focused on them.
Overall:
Unlisted Owner was a decent attempt at found-footage, but it was lacking in the horror department. The first 5 minutes set up the story, but for the next 40-45 minutes, there wasn’t really anything but a group of friends partying. They weren’t doing anything relevant, and there was no significant character development. That only left about ~20 minutes to get to the horror as this film’s entire running time was about 70 minutes. They finally get around to making it back to the house, but there wasn’t enough time left at that point to really develop much tension or scares. having a lot of perspectives was nice, but most of the footage was just a group of people hanging out and partying. While we wouldn’t recommend this one, we do hope Brian decides to take another crack at the horror genre, as the production overall was pretty decent.
