Movie Review: Reunion From Hell (2021)

by

From CineSavage Films, Reunion From Hell is an indie horror film written and directed by Hayden Newman, with co-director Sam Hodge. Also starring Newman, Cathy Podewell (Night of the Demons), and James Stokes.

What we liked:

The score and soundtrack for this film were really good and reminiscent of 80’s horror films. It is pretty heavy on the synth in a good way. It definitely ranks up there among our favorites.

The low-budget quality of this film is charming. Sometimes it is almost SOV-level of bad, which seemed to be intentional, but either way, this film wears it well.

The special effects were super low-budget practical effects which are always fun.

What we thought could have been better:

There was a lot of downtime in the middle of the film that we thought could have been used better.

Overall:

Reunion From HellĀ is a fun low-budget cheesy horror movie with familiar tropes, some great SOV-style atmosphere, and a nice twist. While there was a bit of a lull in the middle of the film, the ending made up for it with a lot of killing, unpredictable moments, and tied everything together nicely. It’s a lot of fun, and we would definitely recommend this to fans of intentionally cheesy horror. It was a good first writing/directing effort from Newman, and hopefully not the last.
