Movie Review: Night (2019)

Night is an indie horror POV film written and directed by Nicholas Michael Jacobs. It runs for about an hour and five minutes. The film is about a girl named Erica (Alexis Beacher) who gets kidnapped, strapped to a chair, and then is put in front of a live stream that the kidnapper has set up. People can donate to the stream and have him do things to the girl in real time. It’s assumed that this is some kind of dark web broadcast.
The concept of this film really had a lot of potential, but it seems like even on a tight budget, they could have accomplished more with this premise. It’s definitely a very minimal effort production. They use one of those retractable plastic toy knives as the weapon the kidnapper has, they don’t really show much of anything but the girl sitting in the chair for most of the film, and even the writing for this short production didn’t seem to have a lot of thought put into it. Erica seems to not even really react when getting cut or stabbed, and it just doesn’t seem realistic.
Overall, as mentioned previously, they could have done a lot more with the concept. Even on a small budget, it seems like with a bit more ambition it could have really shined. We feel like it had potential, but didn’t execute as well as it could have. You can find Night on Amazon Prime as of 3/28/2019
