Movie Review: Homewrecker (2020)

Homewrecker is a horror/comedy/thriller film from director Zach Gayne and written by Precious Chong, Alex Essoe, and Zach Gayne.
The Synopsis: Two women befriend each other, but one becomes obsessed with the other.
What we liked:
– The film stars Precious Chong (Pearl Harbor, L.A. Confidential) as Linda and Alex Essoe (Doctor Sleep, Starry Eyes) as Michelle, and while pulling writing and acting duties, both were really well done. It’s not common to see the writers also star in their own film and the film not suffer from it. Fantastic work by these two. We especially have to hand it to Chong for a great performance.
– The overall production quality was great. Really excellent quality overall in the sound and cinematography.
– The ending has a really nice surprise.
What we thought could have been better:
– There were a couple of scenes where we thought the characters could have reacted more realistically to the situation, but it doesn’t detract from the writing as a whole, which we thought was great.
– While there were definitely a lot of moments that offered elements of horror, we would have loved it if this was a bit more on the darker side.
Overall:
Overall, Homewrecker is a solid indie film with some really good production quality, some fine acting, and a great story. Watching the contrast between Michelle trying to be the voice of reason and Linda’s descent into insanity is fun to watch, and we really enjoyed the twist at the end. While we would have liked it to be a bit more on the darker side, this is definitely worth a watch, and we would recommend it to fans of horror/comedy/thrillers. There is a lot of talent in this production, and we would love to see more from them in the future.
Homewrecker will be available on DVD, VOD, and everywhere else Tuesday, July 10th.
