Movie Review: Clownado (2019)

Clownado is an indie horror film written and directed by Todd Sheets. It’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like, only even more absurd, if you can imagine that.
There is some decent CGI and also a lot of practical blood and guts. The acting isn’t good by any means, but it doesn’t really need to be. The writing is also as expected for a film about a clown tornado. For being an indie film, the quality, even as low-budget was good for what it was. They did a great job of operating well in the budget they had production-wise, which is one of the most critical things when it comes to these indie films.
It begins with a girl named Savannah (Rachel Lagen) who is confronted by her husband Ronnie (John O’Hara) who catches her and another man together. Ronnie is not very happy about this, and things start to escalate from there. They are part of a traveling circus show, and Ronnie is the head clown. Naturally, he has a bunch of clown goons working for him as well who all are turned into a tornado by some kind of gypsy named Autumn Moonspell (Jeanne Silver) with some unintended results.
So as you can imagine, the clowns are now free to terrorize with a great method of transportation. They go hunting for Savannah, and there is a lot of collateral damage done in the process. The killings are all pretty fun and have some awesome low-budget practical effects. There is one kill in particular done by the female clown that we loved.
Overall, Clownado is a fun, imaginative romp. There are enough moments that represent what good horror is, and it is obvious that when making this film that they were definitely making an effort in that department. We would definitely recommend this one to fans of cheesy horror, clowns, tornados, or clown tornados.
