Movie Review: Clown (2014)

Clown is a film produced by Eli Roth, and starring Andy Powers, Laura Allen, and Peter Stormare (Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and even recently the horror game Until Dawn among other things). Andy plays Kent McCoy – A father who finds that the clown for his son’s birthday party canceled last-minute. He is a real estate agent, and while hearing this from his wife, is currently in a house that is being prepared for sale. He decides to don a dusty clown costume he finds in an old trunk in the house to perform at his son’s party, which turns out to be no ordinary clown costume.
Kent has trouble removing the clown costume and begins going through a transformation that is pretty entertaining to watch. He does a bit of research and finds Herbert Karlsson (Peter Stormare) who owned the costume previously, and gives him a bit of backstory about clowns and why he can’t remove the costume, and time is ticking for Kent.
The film has some great cinematography, is a fairly original concept, and it seemed like it was pretty well thought out. The score really sets a good atmosphere for the film, and it has just the right amount of gore without overdoing it. Clown leaves a lot of questions on the table regarding the origin of the costume. We are definitely hoping for a sequel, though, as this was a really fun, quality film. Would definitely recommend this to just about any horror fan.
