Movie Review: A Christmas Horror Story (2015)

by

We are just going to start off by saying that A Christmas Horror Story is just great all around. We went in with expectations that were far exceeded. This film is an anthology similar to Trick ‘r Treat, but for Christmas! There are a few stories in the film, and all of them are interesting in their own ways. William Shatner is even in it as a radio DJ. It’s crazy that he’s 85 years old this year, and still a great actor and very sharp. It was a really nice surprise to see him in this.

You see some crossover in a couple of these stories like you do in Trick ‘r Treat, which is pretty cool. One story is about Santa and his elves, one is about a group of kids who are doing an investigative report in their closed school, one is about a family out looking for a Christmas tree, and one is about another family out on a family trip. Not all of the stories in this intertwine, but it is really cool that they are all happening at the same time, and in the same place. Krampus even has a pretty epic role in this film.

It’s really hard to talk too much about these stories without ruining anything, but what we can say is that this was a well-done film. The cinematography was on. The acting was great, the stories were all solid, there was just the right amount of gore, and overall this was just a very good film. Highly recommend it to fans of anthologies, someone wanting to watch a Christmas horror film to add to their marathons this year, or just someone looking for a solid horror film. This one pretty much has it all, and really has a fantastic ending to tie it all together.
